PCH elephant seals

There’s a stop just off PCH past Cambria where you can see elephant seals.

I’m glad I decided to pull off. They’re so beautiful. I loved it when they talked to one another, flipped dirt on themselves, sparred and, most of all, scratched their bellies with their flippers. Even these grand imposing animals can look silly when they do this. It makes me feel better about all the times I, as a small clumsy human, have looked silly – and believe me, there have been many times.

Right now it’s mostly teenage males and their mothers, who are molting – presumably for mating season; the males will here in a month or so to get it ON!

There’s a sign that says not to feed or disturb the animals, and they’re not kidding around. I found this camera pointed at the tourist area – beware, you’re being watched.

(P.S. yay for random wifi so I could upload this post I wrote a few hours ago!)

PCH Day 2

11 06 2013

Well, I’d planned on getting to my hotel and going through my photos right away. But sometimes life doesn’t go as planned and I was too tired to do anything but eat and then sleep when I got to Cambria. So here’s a filler until I do.

I ate lunch at Moby Dick on Stearn’s Wharf in Santa Barbara with my hat and sunglasses to keep me company. Don’t they almost look like a person? It was a bit touristy, but fun and a much needed rest from driving.

Alas, I’ll have to photo dump later. 🙂 And, I’m excited to begin day two of my Pacific Coast Highway trip – journeying to Puppy. I can’t wait to see him again. It’s only been a few weeks… but you know, young love. We’re celebrating our 11-year anniversary in San Fransisco. How awesome is that? And on our 12-year anniversary? We’re getting married!

My heart feels so full of good cheer as I start out on the road again. I’ve got a bit of a late start; it’s already 11:30 a.m. so I’d better get going!

Live with love.

PCH rest stop Point Mugu State Park

After a few hours of driving, even jamming out to everything from rap to indie couldn’t assuage my restlessness.

So I stopped off at Point Mugu and ate a snack with the company of a couple cool bikers on their way home. I traded some dried apricots for pistachios. Score!

They had some fun tossing pistachios down the cliff to some squirrels before they departed. I stayed and took some pictures with my *real* camera, which I’ll post later.

I had spotty service so I didn’t hear it when Duder called. But as soon as I heard his voicemail, I called him back and we had a great conversation about my Ahoo experience.

Now to get some lunch because my stomach is telling me I’m hungry. 🙂

With love, from L.A.

10 06 2013

I’m already leaving L.A., and it feels like I just got here.

But the time I have been here has been spectacular. I landed Friday morning, spent that day and the next with Junebug, Pous and Mama C. All such awesome people who I am lucky to have in my life.

On Saturday, Junebug and I went camping in the Ojai Mountains with one of his friends he’s known since elementary, new friends and friends of theirs. It was such a wonderful experience. We slept in a circle around our symbolic fire. (It’s dry season – so no real fire… But that’s all relative anyway) I loved it! Ahoo!

When we came back Sunday morning we ate brunch with Pous and Mama C. Mama C is particularly awesome; she’s a great mom to Pous. Then spent a low key day hanging around the Sherman Canals, and now I’m about to hit the road for my solo North Coast Highway road trip. I’ve got my handy dandy power inverter to power all my devices; a plentiful and varied supply of fruit, dried fruit and nuts; and a positive outlook.

PCH, here I come!
